Established in 1958, Smith’s of Ongar provides fresh, sustainable seafood that is famed throughout the South East
With a warm, welcoming fire, exposed brickwork and a cozy upstairs bar along with attentive staff, they have the perfect ingredients for a meal beyond compare.
Front of house staff at Smith’s are trained to the highest level with regular taster days of food and wine, as well as cocktail training from award winning mixologist Alex Turner.
Exclusively to Smith’s of Ongar is their own brand of Bitter and Ale, made in conjunction with Brentwood Brewery adding to the already unique experience that is Smith’s.

The restaurant is located in Ongar Essex (just off the A414)
The restaurant boasts an extensive menu of fresh fish that they offer to cook in a variety of ways to suit every palate. Smith's also offer locally sourced meat dishes to accommodate those who prefer their food terra firma.
To compliment the quality of their food Smith's have worked closely with well renowned independent wine merchants to ensure they have a selection of wines that are the perfect accompaniment to every meal. The only problem you may have at Smith’s is being spoilt for choice.
All of Smith's seafood comes from sustainable sources ensuring that the fish you receive is of the highest quality. They work with small fishing communities with much of their seafood caught on a day boats and delivered daily.
Smith's master fishmongers then expertly prepare the fish onsite. For these reasons they are confident that the fish you receive is of the highest quality available.

Road Directions
From the M11, leave at junction 7 and travel east along the A414 to Ongar. Upon entering Ongar, take the first exit from the large roundabout (Four Wantz) into Fyfield Road. Smith's is on the left hand side after the Moreton Road junction. There is a car park alongside the restaurant.
From Chelmsford, travel south on the A414 towards Ongar and take the third exit on the Four Wantz roundabout into Fyfield road and continue as above.
From Ongar High Street travel west and cross over the Four Wantz roundabout to Fyfield Road.
