Almost Wild Campsite, Nazeing

About

Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite on the borders of Essex and Hertfordshire is your chance for a wilderness adventure and an opportunity to get back to nature. The ultimate camping experience!

Embrace Mother Nature in this rugged, natural setting nestled among mature woodland and a grassy glade surrounded by water on three sides. With limited facilities and none of the trappings of more commercial campsites, you’ll be able to camp out under the stars, hang a hammock from the trees and enjoy an open fire in a fire pit.

Enjoy this hidden gem of a site with its 12 riverside and eight woodland pitches. There’s also a minimum age to stay at the campsite, 12 years old, not quite adult only but nearly.

What we mean by almost wild camping...

Solar powered, motion sensor lights around the toilets limit light pollution

Composting toilets

Cold water tap

Make the most of your time at the site whether you choose to explore the local nature reserves and parks on foot, or hire a bike or canoe and explore from a different perspective. There’s even white water rafting a few miles away if you’d like to ramp up the adrenalin.

Have a question?

Like can I forage for food (no we’d rather you didn’t) or is there electricity on the site (no it’s a back to nature site) – then check out our frequently asked questions or contact us to know more.

2022 prices here.

Riverside pitch Each large riverside pitch can comfortably accommodate three, two person tents. Maximum of six people per pitch.

Woodland pitch Woodland pitches differ due to the size of the glades they’re located in. Or new in 2022, try our pre-pitched Safari Tent, which sleeps five and offers a bit more 'glam' to your almost wild camping experience.
