For great family adventure, base for exploring or weekends away, camping offers the great outdoors and Epping Forest District offers the ideal backdrop and nearby attractions (plus a range of family-friendly pubs and restaurants if camp cooking isn’t your thing). And some of these campsites are a walk or bus/taxi away from mainline and underground trains into London with Stratford typically a half hour ride away on the Central Line (and much travelling above ground through beautiful countryside).
The three main campsites in the district are: Lee Valley Sewardstone Campsite (formal), Debden House Campsite (formal and wild) and Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite (wild). For more general information on the range of accomodation in the Lee Valley (including holiday homes to purchase, pods, hostels and cottages) see their Where to Stay page.
Many of the locations are close to public transport so you don’t need to bring your car. Bike hire is also available and the sites offer a great base from which to explore the district’s countryside by peddle power with mountain biking in the forest and gentler routes around the Lee Valley. Lee Valley sites also offer canoe hire.
With so much of the great outdoors to explore, camping is a popular choice and there are a number of sites close to Epping Forest and Lee Valley Park. Caravanning and motorhomes are well provided for as well. There are also a number of holiday lodges available for purchase or hire and increasingly sites are offering exciting alternatives such as cabins, pods, glamping and shepherds huts.
