Since the mid-1990s, The Copped Hall Trust has been restoring this well-known Georgian mansion, excavating the remains of the historically important Tudor building and recreating the 25 acres of its gardens. Additionally, the Hall occupies a very special position in being sited within agricultural land which is in close contact with the northern aspects of Epping Forest. The mapping of the wildlife which shares our site has always been an important component of the project and in 2012 this was given formal recognition by the appointment of Dr Peter Warne. At first the remit was to monitor the wildlife of the gardens but this has now expanded to include the surrounding buffer land and forest. It is quite a surprise to find out what lives on our own doorstep.
Peter is a retired biologist who has found new purpose in tracking the flora and fauna of the area and recording their presence with his photographs which have on several occasions been commended at county and national level. These photographs will form the visual background to a talk through what he has found throughout the last eight years.
