This ‘embedded’ study day from The (In)Equal Temperament Project will be co-hosted by King’s College London and The Church of Holy Innocents, High Beach, located in the heart of Epping Forest. Our aims are to integrate academic, spiritual, musical, and animal communities on an equal footing within a non-urban setting, providing a unique perspective on the multifaceted dimensions of climate change.
The event keynote shall be a new composition, commissioned for this event, centering on the Church’s carillon bells, which have been ringing in this part of Epping Forest for over a century and are now integrated into the animal and human sound world of this environment. Created by composer Jenny Guilford in collaboration with The (In)Equal Temperament arts collective, this musical composition reflects on the intricate relationship between humans and the site’s avian inhabitants.
