This exhibition is the culmination of a county-wide project exploring the inspirational stories of Essex women who contributed to a century of change. It celebrates some of the big anniversaries in women’s rights from 2018 including, 100 years of some British women being given the chance to vote; 90 years of the Equal Franchise Act, 1928 which allowed women the same voting rights as men and, 50 years since a major strike at the Ford factory in Dagenham in 1968 forced change to women’s working rights. The newly redevelopment museum has enabled the showcasing of many more items in the collection than have been on display before.

The Museum is located in the heart of the historic town of Waltham Abbey, situated just outside the M25 between Epping Forest and the Lee Valley. From the M25, leave at junction 26 and follow the signs to Waltham Abbey.
Free parking is currently available at the Abbey Gardens carpark which is a 10 minute walk from the museum. Further pay and display parking is available in the town centre, the nearest car park is Quaker Lane car park which is a 2 minute walk from the museum.
Public Transport Directions
The museum is a 25 minute walk from Waltham Cross Railway Station. A taxi rank is located outside the station. Buses also operate from Waltham Cross Bus Station which is a 5 minute walk from the station and a bus stop is located within a 2 minute walk of the museum.
