Epping Forest’s Iron Age hillfort: an Ambresbury Banks guided walk

New for 2020, the archaeology and allure of Ambresbury Banks, Epping Forest’s highest Iron Age hillfort. This one hour guided walk from Long Running Car Park will take you around the c2500 year old ancient monument to share what we know about the site, its archaeological excavations and the stories that surround it. The walk will include an opportunity to look at some Ambresbury archaeological finds and archive material from our museum collection.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. We are initially offering walks on Wednesday and Sunday mornings but may be able to accommodate other days and times. If you are interested in discussing this further, please contact us.
Before your visit
Plan your journey and arrive at Long Running Car Park 5-10 minutes before the walk is due to start as it will start promptly at the advertised time.
Please bring a face covering with you.
We are asking that you book this tour as a single group.
Important: To ensure staff and visitor safety, prior to your visit, if you start to display any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19, we will discuss how we can amend your booking for another day. We ask that you refrain from visiting and contact us at epping.forest@cityoflondon.gov.uk to change your visit date. We can refund your ticket price with 48-hours’ notice, or in the light of Government Covid safety advice.

Car parking space is also available at Jack’s Hill/The Ditches car park across the road. Please consider walking or cycling to this location.
Maximum numbers
Tours are available for a booked group of adults or accompanying children/infants, up to a maximum of five guests, on one ticket under a single name. We ask that you comply with current Government guidance regarding whether that group of five people are from a single household, ‘social bubble’ or similar.
How we are protecting our visitors and our staff during the COVID-19 pandemic
Your tour guide will maintain social distancing throughout your tour, and will wear a mask for unforeseen circumstances when social distancing may not be possible.
All of this event will take place outside.
We will request contact details for individuals on the day for Track and Trace purposes, as may be required by changing Government guidance.
