About
On 2 September experienced local riders of all ages and supporters are invited to take part in High Beech Riding School’s charity ride and cake sale in aid of equine charity Brooke – Action for Working Horses and Donkeys.
The event is set to be a fun family day out with the route taking riders on a two hour hack around the 6,000 acres of Epping Forest, promising beautiful views of the local countryside.
High Beech’s Gloria Taylor has owned and run the riding school for nearly 50 years and the stables are now home to 31 horses. Gloria is generously donating £10 from each £68 booking to help Brooke continue their vital work protecting and improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules in developing countries.
Guests are invited to arrive at High Beech Riding School on Pynest Green Lane, Waltham Abbey from 11am for a fundraising coffee morning to eat cake, make friends and hear more about Brooke before the ride begins at 2pm. Anyone interested in taking part in the ride is asked to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
About Brooke
Brooke is an international charity that protects and improves the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules which give people in the developing world the opportunity to work their way out of poverty. For 600 million people in some of the poorest places in the world, 100 million of these animals are the backbone of communities and their best means of making a living. Without healthy working horses, donkeys and mules, they wouldn’t be able to put food on their tables, send their children to school or build better futures for themselves and their families.
Brooke works hard to deliver significant and lasting change, even in some of the world’s most challenging areas. We use our expertise to train and support owners of horses, donkeys and mules, local vets, farriers, harness makers and animal traders to improve standards of care. Operating in 11 different countries, and funding projects in 4 others, the Brooke now reaches over 1.8 million working horses, donkeys and mules – more than any other organisation. It is on target to reach two million working equines each year by the end of 2016.
Brooke was set up in 1934 by Dorothy Brooke, the wife of a British cavalry officer, who travelled to Cairo in Egypt in 1930 to seek out the abandoned war horses of the First World War. She set up the Old War Horse Memorial Hospital, which later became Brooke.
