Garden Design for Beginners

Wednesday 6th March 2019 to Wednesday 3rd April 2019 (5 weeks)

7pm to 9.30pm

Tutor: Dean Blunkell

Course Fee £64.00 (plus a £10 annual membership fee)

A course that aims to provide students with all the techniques and skills that will enable them to design a garden for a particular client, as well as themselves! The tutor teaches at Capel Manor and the V&A museum. This short course runs for 5 weeks.

 

Anxiety: Friend or Foe?

Thursday 7th March 2019

7pm to 10pm

Tutor: Christa Stadtler / Hatice Ari

Workshop fee: £19.20

This will compare them to the experience and nature of fear, worry and stress, giving consideration to both, their helpful and overwhelming aspects. Common types of anxiety disorder will be explained and possible treatments discussed. We will look in greater depth at Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Existential philosophical thinking and Mindfulness including a 10 minute taster relaxation session.  Emphasis will also be laid on lifestyle choices, such as nutrition, hobbies, sleep and exercise. The workshop will be divided into four sections: The experience of anxiety, fear, worry and stress; Different types of anxiety disorder; Possible treatments (CBT, Existential, Mindfulness & meditation); Lifestyle choices

Greetings Cards: One Day Workshop

Saturday 9th March 2019

10am to 3pm

Tutor: Sue Starkey

Class Fee £31.90

An introduction to papercraft that will enable students to make 3 general greetings cards. Suitable for all, no experience needed. All materials, including envelopes and inserts, will be available at cost from the tutor, and can also be purchased to take home with you. Suitable for all levels – no experience necessary!

BASIC EQUIPMENT Please bring if you can (but will be available to use at the workshop):

Scissors, Knife and ruler or trimmer (whichever you have), Adhesives: 3D foam pads, double-sided tape, and a wet glue self-healing mat A4 (available from craft shops or Poundshop)

If you have any embellishments you wish to use such as ribbons, gems, buttons etc, please bring them along.

Tea and coffee facilities are available but please bring a packed lunch.

 

Growing Micro Greens: One Day Workshop

Saturday 16th March 2019

10am to 1pm

How to grow your own microgreens and small seedlings gardens that will mature to produce big flavour. These superfoods are very healthy but can be pricey to buy – so come along and discover how to grow your own – indoors or out – and their health benefits. Learn how to create a mini microgreen garden to sit on a windowsill. All materials provided.

 

Willow Weaving Garden Obelisk: One Day Workshop

Sunday 17th March 2019

10am to 3pm

Tutor: Jill Leheup

Class Fee £42.75

Bend and weave willow to make a free-standing obelisk to support climbing plants such sweet peas or runner beans, or a smaller structure for tall plants such as Michaelmas daises to grow through. This workshop is a perfect present for a crafty Mum (Mothering Sunday is 26 March) – more creative than a bunch of flowers and healthier than chocolate!!

What experience do I need? Suitable for those new to willow weaving and those with some experience.

What will I learn?

• The characteristics of willow as a material for sculpture

• Weaving and bending techniques to make two small items as an introduction

• Brief discussion of weaving options and structure design

• How to make a 3D structure of your own design for your garden

• Advice available on living willow structures

What do I need to bring?

• A pair of secateurs

• Work gloves if preferred

• A suitable vehicle to transport your masterpiece home

Tea and coffee facilities are available but please bring a packed lunch.

 

Portrait Painting: One Day Workshop

Saturday 23rd March 2019

10am to 4pm

Tutor: Ron Clark

Class Fee £52.50

Portrait painting is one of the oldest and most popular forms of art. These workshops enable students to spend a day drawing and painting from a model to learn the skills and techniques of portraiture. Working with a live sitter these workshops are suitable for both experienced and novice artists alike who may use any painting or drawing medium they choose. A limited supply of paper and, pastels will be available for purchase and a few easels and drawing boards will be on hand, but you are advised to bring your own if you have them. For the comfort of others, painters in oils are requested to use low odour thinners rather than turps.

Tea and coffee facilities are available but please bring a packed lunch.

Public Transport Directions

The nearest tube station is Buckhurst Hill on the Central Line. Upon leaving the station, walk along Palmerstone Road in the direction of the High Road and turn right into Westbury Road where Bedford House Community Association is on the left.
